Farm Update, Wednesday September 24th
It was a beautiful and busy Wednesday afternoon at the Yale Farm, as we set to work mulching, weeding and watering the garden. Our three incredible volunteers for the afternoon included Jill from California, Boback from Yale-NewHaven hospital and Guitch from France. The garden is thriving, thanks to the hard work from all the interns and volunteers who pitched in last saturday.
Most of our time on Wednesday was spent continuing Saturday’s work and preparing fro harvest on Friday. Boback and Jill weeded and mulched the potatoes while Guitch watered the fruit trees and weeded the carrot beds. We also harvested from beautiful red okra (originally from the Ethiopian Highlands), weeded the parsley, watered the new lettuce starts in the bottom terrace, and finished mulching the edge of the perennial bed. About halfway through the afternoon, we joined Brenden and his crew to crack open a deliciously ripe watermelon – an amazing snack for a warm fall day.
