Farm Update Friday December 12
By Nat Wilson
Following the morning drizzle, the clouds parted and the sun came out on Friday afternoon. Puddles reflected white puffs of clouds racing across blue sky. On the last workday of the semester, our focus was not on harvesting vegetables for market, but on setting things up for winter and spring.
Adam and I planted garlic and tulip bulbs in quad one. It’s a little hard to think about spring now, but we’ll be happy we did when the plants start to come up in April. Later, Manny helped to clean up some of our floating crop covers, and then raked beds smooth in the greenhouse. Spinach, arugula, and mizuna were planted earlier this week, and now more beds are ready for planting kale, clayronia, and mache.
Good luck on finals and papers, and I hope everyone has a wonderful winter holiday with warm food, family, and friends! See you in January!
