Farm Update Sunday February 8
By Ida Assefa
We had a party at the Yale Farm yesterday. A parsnip harvesting, pea planting party. Sunday’s weather was absurdly beautiful and there over a dozen visitors and volunteers! It was one of the most enjoyable workdays I’ve had in a long while and the sunshine got us all very excited about spring. Tom and I got to work harvesting parsnips, which were planted last fall, and will be used in a delicious meal for John Mackey on Tuesday evening. Mackey is the CEO of Whole Foods and his talk on Tuesday afternoon will definitely be worth attending. Afterwards, Abby and friends harvested the winter’s last carrots while Shy, Lizzie, and Lisa planted peas , and Tom planted a bed of chard in the north greenhouse. A group of Jewish graduation students, members of GradJews, also came by to harvest carrots and explore the garden. In celebration of Tu B’Shevat, the Jewish holiday for the new year of trees, David and the other members cooked a large sustainable meal Sunday evening that included parsnips from the farm!
We’ll be back in action on Friday afternoon– hope to see you there!
